With his varnish-sculptures Gerhard KEHL creates a great connection between old traditions and modernity. The wooden sculptures are traditionally made in the Ore Mountains. Then they become loudly colored by the artist himself. Like that KEHL shows the connection between nature and culture. Two parts which are despite all polarity related and inseparable. Coming from the tradition of comic, the artist reflects themes like the personal freedom, the genetic predetermination, as well as social constraints and norms. Repeatedly appeared images are the egg, the hen and the woman.
